MATERIALS
One Skein Robin Turner Bolivian Alpaca (220 yds)
Size 5 and 7 16” circlular needles, Set of size 7 double pointed needles
Gauge = 6 stitches per inch over cable pattern on size 7 needles
DIRECTIONS
Using size 5 needle, cast on 120 stitches, place marker and joing the round taking care not to twist the stitches. Row 1: *K1, P1 repeat from * across round. Repeat row 1 until brim measure 1 1/2".
Increase row: *k3, m1 repeat from * to end of row, 160 stitches. Change to larger circular needle and knit 1 row.
BEGIN CABLE PATTERN
Rounds 1: *k2, p2, k2, p2, k2, p2, k8, p2, k2, p2, k2, p2, k2 repeat from * to end of round.
Rounds 2-9: same as round 1
Round 10: *k2, p2, k2, p2, k2, p2, CB8, p2, k2, p2, k2, p2, k2 repeat from * to end of round.
Repeat rows 1-10 until bereet measures 4 1/2" from cast on. Try to end on either a round 1 or 10.
Next round: work pattern and place a marker every 32 stitches.
Decreasing for the crown -- just remember as you decrease to keep in the cable pattern rounds 1-10.
Decrease rounds: *k2tog, work in cable pattern until 2 stitches before next marker, ssk, slip marker repeat from * to end of round.
Even rounds: Work in pattern across round.
Repeat the last two rounds, working 2 less stitches between every marker, every other round until you have 8 stitches between each marker.
Next round: *k2tog twice, ssk twice repeat from * to end of round.
Work one round even.
Last round: *k2tog, ssk repeat from * to end of round.
FINISHING
Cut yarn leaving 4" tail. Pull tail thru remaining stitches and weave in ends on the underside. Weave in ends at the cast on edge.
Please Note Abbreviations Before Knitting:
K: Knit
M1: Make one. (Simple increase)
CB8: Slip next 4 stitches onto a cable needle and hold in back, k4 and then k4 from cable needle.
SSK: slip next two stitches as if to knit, place left hand needle into the front of these stitches and then knit them together.
K2tog: knit two stitches together
PM: place marker
SM: slip marker
